Present vs. Past Tense (Diary #1)
This worksheet provides useful practice using the past simple and present simple. Students must recognize when it is appropriate to use which tense. Both diary entries utilize both tenses. Skills covered include: reported speech (with and without quotations), use of the to-infinitive (i.e. not using the past tense after ītoī), and more intuitive situations that require the students to understand the meaning of the author in order to know if the past tense should be used or not. Students also need to know how to conjugate "be" in the past tense. An answer key is also found.
Verbs used are almost all irregular, but very common: be, play, go, like, catch, throw, want, drive, eat, say, do. If you havenīt taught them one of them, or simply want to make it easier you can just write the past forms on the board or have them copy them onto the back of the sheet if they are doing it for homework. I made this worksheet from a template given by kprichorniana. Thanks for a great template!
