Shameless Intro
This acclaimed comedy drama from Channel 4 in Britain portrays a dysfunctional working-class family in very stark terms. The accents are typical of the northern England working class, thus quite difficult!
An idea would be to have half of the class watch the scene from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dssnahZ16uU&feature=related> with the sound off, while the other half listens to the soundtrack in a different room. After 3 viewings/listenings, bring the students together and have them pair up and explain what they have seen/heard. See how many of the characters they can name. (To make it easier for the listeners, you could give them this worksheet.)
While the opening sequence is okay for older teenagers and adults, the DVD is restricted to 18 and older, and not just because of the gritty language. Some of the episodes from Series 1 would be totally inappropriate for use in any class, regardless of the students’ ages. (Just my opinion, of course, but I doubt if many people would disagree.)
I used the font Compacta Bold for the titles, which is the same as the title on the screen.
