Other meanings of common words
This lesson introduces students to different meanings of the common words: Up, Down, Free, and Beat
-On the first page, you will find a sheet with definitions for each word. This is to be cut up so that SSīs can work together to do a matching exercise, guessing the meanings that these words can have. You can do FB at the end of this activity, but I prefer to do the next gap fill task and then have the students go back, using the correct answers from the gapfill as examples to help match the definitions correctly.
-Afterwards, there is a gap fill sheet with sentences to be completed with each word.
-Then there is a discrimination exercise to practice them more.
-Finally, I give the students a copy of the original sheet for them to take home so they have a record of everything and we do a speaking activity practicing the language.
All in all, its probably a good 40-45 min of classwork.
