Present Percect Grammar Gambling
Really easy to do, engages students pretty well either using OHP or writing sentences on the board.
Write a sentence on the board, eg "I have went to China", ask students if itīs gramatically correct or incorrect. Get students to explain why sentence is incorrect (went - past simple not past participle), you may need to explain the difference between, been (come back) and gone (not come back) here.
Split students into 3 teams and give them an amount of money. Give them a flashcard with a tick and a flashcard with a cross on. Explain students have to gamble on whether they think the sentences are gramatically correct or incorrect. Set a maximum bet allowed, eg $500. Revela or write the first sentence, give students a short amount of time to decide if the sentence is correct or incorrect then take their bets. Students hold up flashcards on the count of three and the teacher then then pays winnings if needed. Extra money can be awarded for saying why sentences are wrong. Should a team run out of money, lend them more but explain they will have to pay you back more at the end, eg lend a team $1000 but tell them that they have to give you back $1200 at the end. Go through the sentences sequentially, the team with the most cash at the end is the winner. Simples! Entertains students and a great way to sum up grammar covered in previous lessons.
