Talking about Music Talking about Music

This lesson focuses on creating conversation about music. Students initially brainstorm all the kinds of music they know. They then look at a list of adjectives and phrases, linking them with the different kinds of music they think the adjectives and phrases describe. In the study phase of the lesson, students are exposed to question and answer patterns related to music. Using these patterns, they must write their own questions and quiz each other. In the next part of the lesson, there is a gap-fill transcript of Avril Lavigneīs cover of Bob Dylanīs "Knockinī on Heavenīs Door" (available on YouTube). Students listen to the song and try to fill in the gaps. They must then answer some comprehension and discussion questions with a partner.
