How to Save Money (Reading Comprehension Worksheet)
This is a simple reading I found for how to save money. The author lists 14 things that he or she did to either eliminate or reduce expenses. I simplified it a bit for pre-intermediate or intermediate students and included five multiple choice reading comprehension questions as well a vocabulary matching section. That section consists of eight vocab words that are used in the reading and they can either be pre-taught or learned through context (I preferred the latter when I used the lesson).
Another fun thing I did was have the students guess how much money would be saved for each of the money saving ideas. Next to each of the 14 money-savers is a $______. You can have students fill in their guesses and see if their total matches the given total.
Afterwards, you might ask students to brainstorm other money saving techniques, eliciting some pre-taught vocab.
I used this lesson with college students and adults as it pertained to their interests, but the lesson encourages enough close reading and creative thinking that I think it can be used for any age, provided they´re at the right level.
