Group puzzle: reading comprehension questions and interpretation of ŽA Diamond GuitarŽ by Truman Capote.
After the students have read the short story ŽA Diamond GuitarŽ by Truman Capote, divide your class into 4 groups. They discuss and answer only their own questions, thus becoming "experts" on them. Then they can present their answers to the rest of the class (and you as the teacher can guide the answers a bit better), or they get together their new groups which consist of the different experts and share their findings (can be done with strong classes). Follow up the activity by asking the students about symbols and dreams in their own lives.
