Inference & Observation 2 Week Unit With Culminating Class Project
This is a two-week (can be shorter or longer depending on how the teacher decides to use it, time in the classroom, and the level of students) unit based on observation and inference with a writing component. The unit also integrates students´ content areas by means of guided reading tips/practice and note-taking. It starts with recognizing the difference between observation through activities and moves on to a class writing project. Each step can be modified in various ways to fit indivdual classrooms. Other components in the unit are note-taking, library awareness and use, cultural differences, creative paragraph writing, listening, and reading guidance/clues to look for for certain types of readings. *Originally designed for a group of high school ESL students in a sheltered classroom environment, all with various L1s, at the intermediate to advanced level - but can easily be used in different environments. Some of the materials are included, but some (such as art supplies and magazines) must be provided by the teacher.
