Grammar Rock
I write V1, V2, V3, V4 and N1, N2, N3, N4 on small pieces of paper, and I put them in a cup. I also write every letter of the alphabet on little pieces of paper (one paper for each letter) and place them in a different cup. I divide the class into teams of 3-4 students, and each group has a small (1 ft. X 1 ft.) whiteboard and a whiteboard marker. I draw a paper out of each cup (example V3 & S) and the students have to write a sentence using 3 verbs (3V) all starting with the letter "S." Each team writes the sentence on their whiteboard and then holds it up for me to see. It has to be a complete sentence, and they have to capitalize and punctuate it correctly. The first team to do this gets a point. I keep track of points per team, and the winning team gets a prize. The kids go crazy for it! It is good practice on what verbs and nouns are, and itīs also good practice for capitalization and punctuation.
