Prepositions - for since while during in until ago
Write these prepositions on strips of paper. The number next to the preposition indicates how many strips should get that preposition written on them.
FOR(3) … WHILE(3) … DURING(3)… SINCE(3) … UNTIL(3)…
AGO(2)… IN(2)
Give the students a copy of the first worksheet. I recommend blowing it up to 150 or more on a copy machine, or A3 sized paper as we call it here in Germany, so it appears more like a "game board".
Ask the students to place the strips over the blanks in the worksheet, to physically "fill in" which prepositions fit into which sentences.
An additional activity is to ask the students to write down which verb tense is used in each sentence. Then the teacher should connect the verb tense to the prepositions, for example, that during, for, & since are often associated with the perfect tenses and that while is often associated with the progressive tenses (although not always).
The second page provides answers. *Note that during & in can often both be used in some of the blanks.
