Counting syllables/ identifying the stressed syllable
The students have to identify the number of syllables and the stressed syllable in each word.
Exercise 1 - Demonstrate the activity by using ´clap´ to identify the number of syllables. Then the students work in pairs and complete the worksheet, writing the number of syllables in the box provided.
Exercise 2 - Students can then again work in pairs to underline the stressed syllable. Explain to students that this is the ´louder´ sound, give an example and get them to complete the worksheet.
