An article printed by the Guardian about Jacques Chirac storming out of an EU meeting because one of his fellow countrymen was addressing the group in English. Reading questions probe why English is used, if Chirac was justified and what they would do if organizing a conference with attendees from many countries. This exercise is designed to help students think about why English is used so commonly instead of merely emphasizing that it is the only Žinternational languageŽ to learn.
