							Matilda by Roald Dahl: Design Your Own Prank for Matilda 
							Writing prompt to be used in conjunction with the YA novel "Matilda" by Roald Dahl. Exercise asks students to write a friendly letter to the novel protagonist, suggesting a new prank/practical joke she can play on her nasty, unkind parents as punishment for their terrible behavior towards her. This can be combined with intro to/review of letter-writing. Can also be used to do sequential, step by step, instructional writing,and can be revised to include a visual component like an illustration of the prank in action, or a labeled diagram of the supplies needed or the preparation involved. Can be done in pairs or independently.
