Song- "On Top Of Spaghetti"
This is an exercise to use when teaching the ever-popular song, "On Top of Spaghetti." I made it to use as a gap text with mixed groups of children who are beginning readers or still donīt read at all.
The first page has a double copy of the song with all words. I actually hand that out at the end of the exercise, not at the beginning. The second and third pages are the version to use for beginning readers. The final page is to use for very young children.
You begin by pre-teaching the vocabulary in the pictures: cheese, meatballs, table, etc. Then you sing or play the song for the children. Hand out the gap worksheets and let the children cut out the pictures. Tell them to listen carefully and sing the first verses. Let them paste in the pictures corresponding with the word they hear.
This works even for very young kids because they are pasting in pictures at the end of each verse. They should be able to hear when that point comes even if they canīt read.
Like this, the kids will ask you to play or sing the song over and over again. At the end, you sing it together, of course. And afterwards, theyīre guaranteed to be singing it for weeks!
Download and enjoy!
P.S.: If you donīt know the tune, it can easily be googled.
