FIND SOMEONE WHO
FIND SOMEONE WHO
FIRST DAY ACTIVITY – GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER
level: intermediate and up
time: about 1 hour (with optional tasks up to 2hrs)
Cut up and distribute the Find Someone Who cards. Ask students to look at their card and see if they know all vocabulary on it, if there´s anything they do not understand they can ask other classmates or you before starting the activity. Explain that students have to walk around the room and find people who have the characteristics described on the card. When they find someone, they write the name and then ask a follow up question on that subject.
Begin the game. Continue until all students have completed their worksheets. This will probably take about half an hour or more in a class of 6.
Students return to their seats. Ask students to tell you and the rest of the class what they´ve found out about their new classmates, if they have anything in common, if they´ve discovered anything they like.
As a follow up activity cut up the strips of vocabulary and test the students to see if all´s clear, optional homework would be to use the new vocabulary to write sentences.
Another idea would be to write down sentences (as an auction) and students bet between 10 and 100 points on the sentences if they think the word/vocabulary has been used correctly, this could also be done as a group competition.
