The Calendar Project
This is a project that I am doing with my Grade 5 class (although I believe it could be done as early as Grade 3). It is two-fold. First, they do exercises to learn ordinal number in written and digital form. They also do exercises to learn the months and days of the week. This culminates in their being given a template of a month to fill in with the ordinal numbers and days of the week and then decorate. This paper is then glued to a larger piece of coloured paper. The second part involves learning about the holidays and/or celebrations of the particular month that they made. They will then design and decorate another paper with this holiday. Information will be added about the origin of the holiday. It will then be glued to the other side of the coloured paper. Finally, all the months will be joined together to create a class calendar.
