Understand Adverbs
Curriculum Expectations
• Students use correctly the conventions, like spelling, grammar, punctuation, and so forth.
Objectives
1. Tap into student’s prior knowledge of adverbs.
2. I will ask students questions about their knowledge of adverbs. Examples of questions: What is an adverb? What does an adverb do? Why are adverbs important?
3. By asking students questions about adverbs is like assessing their knowledge of adverbs. If I notice that they are having difficulties with adverbs, I would explain the adverbs in greater detail.
Materials
1. Overhead projector
2. Copies of hand-out #1 and #2
* Copies of rules and examples that I will be showing on the over-head.
3. Copies of hand-out #3
* Students’ class work.
4. Copies of hand-out #4
* Modified version of hand-out #3
