After my English 11 students read and discuss Ralph Waldo Emersonīs famous essay "Self-Reliance" I assign them this 5 paragraph response to literature essay. The point is for them to analyze one of Emersonīs philosophical beliefs and back it up with 2 quotations from the text in each body paragraph. Enjoy!
