"I Am From" Poem Assignment
This is a great get-to-know-you assignment that can be done with students grades 6-12. Looking back on their individual lives (experiences, culture, hobbies, etc.) students must write a 5 stanza poem. The first line of each stanza must begin with, "I am from..." I give my own example stanza on the assignment sheet to clarify. The assignment also requires students to mount the poem on a poster and surround it with pictures and clippings that illustrate who they are. Kids love this assignment. Enjoy!
