English worksheet: Family question and answer sheets for pair work Family question and answer sheets for pair work

This activity is designed for pair work. You can teach them how to read a family tree. These worksheets have been written specifically for working in Japan but can be used by anyone so long as the students know that 女 means girl/woman and ç”· means boy/man. Students should be taught family word vocabulary before attempting this activity. Students take it in turns asking each other the questions. Student A asks question number 1. Student B writes the answer on their answer sheet. Then Student B asks Student A a question and Student A writes the answer on their answer sheet. They keep taking it in turns until they have finished. Don´t let them show each other their question sheets. This makes it a good speaking and listening exercise. To stop students cheating and giving each other their question sheets print Student A´s pages on different colored paper to Student B´s. I suggest creating some puzzles using the family vocabulary so that the pairs who finish this activity faster than others have plenty to do. I have used this very successfully with high school students who are generally reluctant to participate in English classes.
