MONDEGREEN - Misheard Lyrics - a lot of fun!
Prepare yourself for some really good laughing! Everybody has already sung a song the wrong way, truly believing it was correct! Students will be happy to realize that they are not the only ones who commit mistakes when singing songs in English. This is how to proceed: -Write the word “mondegreen” on the board and ask students if they have any idea what this is about. Then write “misheard lyrics” and exploit the meaning of the words; -Hand out the worksheet, and have students read the explanation for mondegreen. Ask them if they remember any, in English or in their native language, provide examples to encourage them; -Tell them they’ll listen to two songs that are apparently normal, but the correct lyrics and the mondegreens are mixed up. They’ll try to spot and correct the mistakes; -Once you’ve checked their work, visit youtube and show them the mondegreen version of the two songs they’ve just listened to.
