So you think you know English tenses?
This engaging team game is designed to refresh verb tenses, promote team work, and have fun with English.
First, divide your class into 2 teams. Explain that their task is to make sentences by combining a cue phrase in the cloud and a time expression. Here is a step-by-step procedure for team 1:
1. Look at the first time expression - ´already´.
2. From the list of 7 cue phrases on the left side of the sheet, select a cue phrase, for example, ´Mr. President´.
3. Put them together in a sentence, for example, ´Mr. President has already visited ten countries on his world tour´.
Then, team 2 makes a sentence with ´long ago´. After that team 1 makes a sentence with the second expression - ´once´, and so on. (If team 1´s first sentence was incorrect, it makes one more sentence with the first expression).
Each team goes up the pyramid. On the gray square, it makes a sentence in any tense, and then goes down the pyramid. Thus, the team which gets to the other team´s pink square, is the winner. All in all, each team has to make 15 sentences. If your time is limited, each team makes 8 sentences, finishing on the gray square.
