The Grammar Gambler # 2 - BUSHISMS - US President Proves How Difficult English Really Is!
This is an activity my classes love! The idea is to present students 10 sentences - some are correctly written, others have errors (you can adapt the game to review a particular grammatical item , for example, past simple, word order, if clauses, etc). In this case, they are “Bushisms”, some famous quotes from the US President that are not entirely correct.
The students, in small groups, analyse the sentences and have to decide if they are correct or not. If not, they must correct them. Then they make bets on their sentences. If they are confident, they place the highest bid on the sentence; if not, the minimum. I like to use candy as "currency" but you can use points, stars, etc. They will love this game!
