This is a very basic activity to introduce a)the difference between regular and irregular verbs b)pronunciation rules and spelling rules for regular Past Tense forms, e.g. hate-hated / cry-cried / stop-stopped Cut out the cards (or ask the kids to cut them out) Pupils form groups of 2-4 kids, each group gets ALL cards (all five colours), jumbled of course. Then ask them to find verb pairs and to sort them according to colour. They should end up with five sets of pairs, nicely laid out on their desks. Then ask them to find out and discuss what the pairs of each colour have in common.
