Billy and Sammy
I took the well-known Shirley Jackson short story CHARLES and simplified and changed it to produce this story. Suggestions teaching: Ask students to read the story outside class. In class, pair the students and ask them retell the story. Then repair the students and give them the questions. After ten minutes, repair the students again, and ask them to start asking questions from the bottom of the question sheets. After another ten minutes or so, ensure students have put away their papers and put them in groups of 3-4 students. Ask them to share any ideas they have about the story--why they liked it, why they did not like it, what memories the story led them to recall, and so on.
