A Dog Named Ought (sung to the tune of B-I-N-G-O)
This song teaches students the irregular -ought spelling pattern. Itīs a song about a dog named Ought, and itīs sung to the tune of B-I-N-G-O. I based a lesson around it for my special education ESL middle school students. At first they refused to sing along, so I said they only had to listen to me sing it three times. We did a pre-test, I handed it out, sang it three times, and did a post-test. Even the worst spellers got most of the words right. Also, they broke down and began singing along by my second rendition. They had lots of fun, and were always asking to sing the song again.
