Call My Bluff - advanced idiom exercise
Here is a nice game for advanced students. Up to five pairs or small groups work to provide fake definitions to unusual idioms for their friends. Points are awarded for saying which is the correct definition or for fooling classmates.
Teachers should give the meaning of the expression ´to call someone´s bluff´ and explain the aim is to trick your friends. You should also circulate around the class making sure that the students´ definitions and example sentences sound fluent enough, so that it is not obvious to the others which is the correct definition. Takes about one hour in total. Can be adapted for lower level students.
A fun game which requires some ingenuity from students, but provides a lot of laughter in the classroom! Please ask if you have any questions about this exercise.
