The Fishing Game Modified
Level: Intermediate +
Time: 25 minutes
Preparation: Paper slips (one for each student) with printed parts of statements which are open and which invite students to finish them and state students own opinions.
Procedure: The teacher hands out slips of paper with the statements to be finished. Students complete them, then make balls out of the slips and put the balls into a box. Two students are invited to play the game. One of them goes “fishing” by picking up a ball (“a fish”) from the box. He or she reads a statement and has to say “I disagree” and gives his or her arguments. The other student listens to the arguments and also has to say “I disagree” to what has been said and argues. The game continues until one of them says “I agree”. After that two more students are invited to play.
Variation: This game can be done in pairs or in groups.
Handouts: Paper slips (one for each student) with printed parts of statements to be finished.
