Paradise Lost - BOOK I
Paradise Lost (published 1667) is an epic poem in 12 books of blank verse by John Milton describing the Christian story of the Fall of Man: the temptation of Adam and Eve by Satan and their expulsion from the Garden of Eden.
First of all, the book I proposes the whole subject: the Fall of Man, Adam and Eveīs expulsion from Paradise, and the consequences of eating the fruit from the forbidden tree. It also tells about the rebellion of some angels and their expulsion from heaven. After, the poem presents Satan with the fallen angels already in hell. They eventually start to rise and Milton describes the ranks of Satanīs army and his speech to them. Satan tells them of a new world and new kind of creature called man. They will continue the war against heaven, but the battlefield will be in the world of mankind. The close of Book I sees the building of the palace Pandæmonium and the preparations for a council of Hell.
