ESL Dining Out Part 1 of 4, Appetizers
This is a roleplay lesson for ordering food at a nice (aka fine dining) restaurant. The menu is a condensed version of a real menu from a real restaurant, Crappito’s (that’s right Crappitos – for any who don’t know “crap” is a mild expletive and means “excrement”) in Houston, Texas. The restaurant’s name has been commented on for years (it’s a family name) and they have copies of newspaper articles making fun of it posted in the entryway. Get the students to come up with a comparable word in there language and add the "ittos" suffix to it for a good laugh. http://www.crapittos.com
I had to break it into four parts due to size constraints.
Part 1 – Appetizers and Teachers Notes + Red Wine list + Calories per dish
Part 2 – Soups and Salads
Part 3 – Entrees
Part 4 - Deserts
I have also included an approximate calories list for the dishes. After the meal have the students calculate their total bill and tip and then have them calculate their total calories. I have had some students reach over 3000!
