Describing appearance. Stereotypes.
This activity is not really mine, our university teacher conducted something similar many years ago. I just simplified the activity and adapted it for my school students. After we learn the appropriate vocabulary, I divide the class into 2 (or more) groups and give them one of the pages with the task. While discussing and writing they arenīt allowed to communicate with other groups, so they donīt know what the others are writing about and stay unaware of the fact that their pictures are the same and the tasks are very different. Then they present their descriptions to the class (without showing the picture). It works very nice after they understand the joke. Of course, after the activity is over we talk about stereotypes and I tell them about Hemingway. And - yes - I strongly recommend them to read at least some of his books. :)
