Each pupil receives a card and checks that he knows the names and numbers of animals on it. Set up the class for a speed dating activity. I normally make rows of 5 or 6 desks with chairs facing each other. Pupils on one side of the row move each time the bell is rung, the others stay seated. When the teacher gives the starting orders, the pupils make short improvised dialogues with the pupil opposite. After 2 or 3 minutes a bell rings and pupils one side move on to the next “candidate”. This activity gives all pupils a chance to participate simultaneously
