Numbers 1 to 10 Crossword Game worksheet

What you need : • 2 or more students • Play money in the following denominations : ₤5, ₤10, ₤20, ₤50, ₤100 • 15-20 minutes How it works : • Put the students in teams of no more than 4. They can also play individually if you have a small class. • The students can only answer ONE clue at a time. • After answering a clue, they must bring the answer to the teacher. • If the answer is correct (both the word and the spelling) the student or team receive the corresponding money. If it’s incorrect, they must go back and correct it. • Each answer can only be completed once, therefore once an answer has gone, the other team(s) cannot answer it. • The winner is the student or team with the most money once all the answers have been found. Other comments : This is a great game for encouraging students to learn spelling, especially if you tell them the lesson before that you are going to play it! It is good for mixed abilities, as the lower ability students may choose to go for all the easy answers and get their money in small, but multiple amounts, whereas the cleverer students may get one or two of the bigger value words. Students will figure out for themselves which strategy they want to use.
