In a Pinch: Question Game
A classroom version of a popular American TV show, this activity allows for vocabulary review and practice forming questions. This is the activity sheet for a game that I used with intermediate level junior high and high school students. If you´re in a pinch, you can just use the sheet I provide. If you have time, I´d encourage you to adapt the lesson to what the students have been learning.
How to play:
Write/Post the categories on the board. Under each heading write/post points 25, 50, 75, and 100. Students are divided into at least two teams. I always let Team 1 start by selecting a category and the number of points. The idea is that 25 points is an easy questions and 100 points is more difficult. Read the definition given for the number of points. Students answer by raising their hands and then forming a question, "What is ...?"
Variations:
Depending on the students abilities, you can adapt the game and encourage multiple question formulations "Who is, what is, what are, when is, etc".
