I took this short story from a tale book and adapted it to fit an ESL class. The idea is that students recognize regular and irregular verbs. They have to conjugate the verbs in parenthesis to past and then reread the story to organize the events. In the charts on the left they will number the events from 1 to 7. In this way you are reviewing past constructions and reading comprehension as well.
