Big Bang Theory - Past Continuous vs Past Simple
Activity based on an epidsode of Big Bang Theory (series 5 episode 7). In this episode, Leonard, Raj and Howard try to scare Sheldon, who is working late in his office. Students can discuss what they know about the characters as a warm-up actvity. Then, they watch the clip (you donīt have to play the full episode, just the part in which the skeleton appears, and what happens immediately before and after that). Ask the students what the characters were doing (Past continuous) when the skeleton appeared. Then, ask what they did after that (Past simple). Finally, students can discuss in pairs what they were doing when someting else happened: e.g. when they lost their first tooth, when they found out Michael Jackson had passed away...
