CHALLENGE - UNDERSTANDING INSTRUCTIONS
This is a worksheet for those students who struggle to read and follow the instructions you give them, no matter how many times you repeat them or ask them to pay attention. I usually use it at the beginning of the school year to help students understand the importance of reading, understanding and following task/activity instructions. Before they start to work on it, you should make a point of reminding them TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CLOSELY. As you can see, these are the TWO KEY INSTRUCTIONS on the list: 1. Read all the instructions before doing any of the activities. 2. Proceed with caution. Most students will rush and try to comply with all of the instructions before they reach the last one (20. Now that you have read all the instructions carefully, follow only the instructions given in number 3.) This means that out of the 20 instructions, they only needed to complete task 3. When your students finish the activity, they might feel cheated, but with this excercise you can help them understand what you mean when you ask them to "read/follow the instructions". And it΄s really fun to see them struggle with all of the tasks only to reach the last item on the list and realize they weren΄t supposed to do anything at all! ;) Enjoy and have a laugh with your students as they complete this challenge!
