Meet The ALT Self-Intro Listening Comprehension Worksheet (Level JHS 3rd Year)
Assuming that many of the people who use this site are probably also ALTs, that means many of you may also have had the experience of having to give a self-introduction lesson to classes of children you´ve never met before!
This is a worksheet I designed to use alongside my self-introduction power point slideshow. I use this one mostly with 3rd years as they have a wider vocabulary and should be used to listening/taking notes by now.
(I have a 1 & 2 year version also with fewer and simpler questions).
The page is editable and you can change and add your own questions in accordance with your own self intro.
Here´s how it works:
Before my intro, I let the kids know there will be a short quiz at the end of my intro for prizes (stickers).
I give a 10-15 slideshow intro about myself, and their task is to listen carefully and take memos about the intro. (My hobbies, my country, etc)
After the intro, they are given 10 min to complete this worksheet with as much as they could remember. The last 5-10 min, I ask the questions one by one and have the students raise their hand to answer.
For each correct answer the student gets a sticker.
The top half is questions about the presentation, the bottom "Tell me about you" half, the students write their own answers about themselves.
(To make it last longer, if there is a question with more than one answer, I have each student say only one of those answers. For example, if the question is "What are my hobbies", and I mentioned 4 hobbies in the presentation, when it comes time to answer the question, I tell each student to answer only one of the hobbies they wrote. This gives more students the chance to participate and collect stickers.)
If there is enough time at the end, you can even choose volunteers who want to answer the bottom questions about themselves.
To answer, they must say their name and the answer.
For example, for "Tell me your: hobby" :
"My name is Sakura, and I like volleyball".
For food:
"My name is Bob, and I like pizza"... etc.
Oh by the way, that big circle in the middle? That´s "Free Space". After they have answered the questions, they are given the option of writing or drawing whatever they like in the circle. For example, I tell them they can either write a message, ask me a question, or draw a picture (favourite anime character, etc).
