English Pronunciation Assessment test
This is the list of 80 words I use with my University students in China to test their pronunciation of every sound in English, in addition to assessing their ability to do linking, use proper rhythm and intonation.
I use this at the beginning of the semester, then give them the exact same exam at the end, so I can have a direct comparison and see whether or not they improved. In their final grade, half of their points come from correct pronunciation. The other half come from the percentage the student improved. For example, if they had 20 wrong at the begining, but 10 at the end, they would get 50 for this part - 10/20, but if they missed 10 at the beginning, but only 2 at the end, they´d get 80 (8/10). I have found that this helps students know exactly which sounds they have trouble with, so they can spend more time on the problem sounds. I hope you find it helpful.
