Present continuous or can canīt naughts and crosses game
Print out the page and give one to each pair of students or display it on the screen or whiteboard using a projector. Instruct students that they will be playing naughts and crosses game i.e. they will try to get four naughts and the other four crosses in a row: vertically, horizontally or diagonally. To put a cross or a naught on the board they will have to produce a grammatically
correct sentence. If they want to put a cross or a naught on field number one, they will have to say: I canīt write (if youīre practicing sentences with īcanī) or Iīm not writing (if youīre practicing present continuous). A plus indicates an affirmative sentence,a minus - a negative one and a question mark - a question.
For example,to put a cross or a naught in the field number 32 a child would have to say: Are you spelling? or Can you spell?
Whoever manages to put four their signs in an uninterrupted row, wins the game.
You can also use it as a board game with counters and a dice throwing. The field number one is then the starting point and field number 48 is the finish line. Every time a childīs counter lands on a field they have to produce a correct sentence required for this field. If they donīt, they lose a turn.
Have fun!
