Welcome to
ESL Printables,
the website where English Language teachers exchange resources:
worksheets, lesson plans, activities, etc.
Our collection is growing every day with the help of many teachers. If
you want to download you have to send your own contributions.
I designed this after a lesson about phrasal verbs in our textbook (New Headway Intrmediate) that pointed out separable/inseparable and literal/idiomatic (or figurative) and after a brief activity in which I elicited some common phrasal verbs students already knew. I made the worksheet for the students to use with the following webpage which is an extensive list of phrasal verbs- more than my students know from their past lessons: http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/phrasals.htm
You can use another list of phrasal verbs but it must be equally extensive. I put pictures for a couple of the sentences because the webpage does not include some of the figurative meanings of the phrasal verbs.
I gave them a printout of the webpage and asked them to use it as a reference. In this way it was a puzzle for them and they enjoyed doing it in pairs and groups of three. After this activity I narrowed down the list to ones that were introduced in our text book plus those that I though would be especially useful for them in the future.
