Describing adjectives
This activity helps students see descriptive adjectives from a different perspective. Students often memorize words and have a hard time grasping the full concept, or explaining an idea using description. Rather than asking to come up with synonyms/opposites (tall --- short etc.), this exercise asks to describe what it means to be … .
Example:
-What does it mean to be busy?
- To be busy means to have a lot to do.
- To be busy means to have little free time.
- Someone who is busy has a lot of things to do.
- A busy person has little time to rest.
- If you are busy, you are always in a rush.
All answers are correct. Students are asked to describe an adjective in their own words. This can be a creative activity that encourages forming their own phrases, rather than just providing the correct answer. Recommended for Advanced Beginner/Intermediate levels.
