Beginning Reports Using Cloze: Countries
I teach English to a small group of Chinese early elementary students. I have had great success with this type of oral report to help build student confidence and fluency in speaking before their classmates. An example of the brief report is at the bottom of the data page and students search through the data to fill in the information for their topic. I have them help each other with the information and in practicing their reports. Then I video the report and send to their parents. Video also helps point out the importance of holding their paper below their mouths, standing still, and learning how to make eye contact. I put visuals of their topic on the audience side of the report paper. The country report has the added advantage of students practicing saying ordinals and large numbers.
