North and South -worksheet 2 -BBC TV series (2004) 10-minute comprehension clip
This is an intermediate film project, using clips from the BBC series North and South. This is worksheet 2, you can find worksheet 1 in my uploaded worksheets. I hope to upload all 6 worksheets, to cover the whole of Episode 1. I won’t put any links here directly to the BBC series, you can use your imagination for that, or you can buy the film on Amazon, like some of my other students did. ( This is a BBC series I would definitely have in my collection). Or, you can message me and I can give you the links to my own 10-minute clips. Please note, I contacted the British Copyright Office, and was told that for limited educational purposes, “fair use” includes respectful use of short clips for academic study only. You should not broadcast or show it in public, but complete this study project in the privacy of your own home. I hope this gives you a nice taste of their quality. This series gives you wonderful insight into Victorian Britain, the divisions between the classes, between North and South, which exist to this day. You can study the difference between regional and social accents and dialects and the romantic in you can savour the passionate relationship between Margaret Hale and John Thornton, as they meet across the chasm of the class divide. As usual, you will see performances by some of the finest British actors.
Enjoy! :-)
