Four-Skills Lesson: Kanzi the Talking Ape
This four-skills lesson is about an amazing bonobo named Kanzi who learned how to communicate with a special keyboard and raises questions about how languages are learned. I made this lesson for university students studying EFL with a TOEFL score around 500.
The parts of the lesson are as follows: KWL Table, listening cloze with brief comprehension check, a jigsaw reading, a longer reading with comprehension questions, vocabulary exercises, and a letter writing activity. There are also supplemental materials with a link to a video and suggested discussion questions. The full text is at the end of the lesson, so the teacher can carry out the cloze activity.
