Present Continuous wordrace
A fun activity to practice present continuous with some of the most common verbs. Simply cut out a set of verb cards for each team (or pair), mix them up and use them in different types of activities!
Possibility 1: put the mixed up cards in a pile on the floor, one pile for each team. Put a table or a chair in the opposite side of the classroom in direct line from the pile of cards. Have the team members take turns running from the chair to the pile, finding one pair of words at a time, running back, putting the pair on the table or chair.
Possibility 2: if you want to make it more difficult, have the students form a sentence each time they set a matched pair of verbs on the table/chair. If you have a lot of students, itīs better to have them form sentences after they have matched all the verbs, so itīs easier to monitor.
Possibility 3: if you donīt have enough room for running, give the verb cards to every pair of students and simply have them match them, then form sentences and then choose 5 of the verbs that they want to remember and write down the sentences with those verbs. You can make the sentences true/false sentences about the students themselves and have them read the sentences to their partners who have to guess if theyīre true or false.
