Confusing Telephone Messages
Pre-teach linking, elision and perhaps a session on homophones and oronyms before the activity.
Print out the cards, laminate and cut out.
First, give them the blue dialogue cards and ask for a volunteer.
Tell the volunteer to read only the dialogues for speaker number 1.
You then read out speaker number 2 and select one of the message cards.
When it is time to spell the name and give the numbers make sure that all the students write down the spellings and numbers.
When it is time to read out the message, do so at a normal speed.
Once everybody has finished writing down the messages, hold up the message card to see if they have written down the spellings, numbers and messages correctly.
Once that has been done, students take it in turns to read out the messages themselves.
