The Gift of the Magi has been one of my favourite short stories by O Henry. Its twist ending has a very specical effect on students. It captures, motivates and helps them appreciate the power of literature. I have used the original story with advanced levels but you can simplify the story for lower levels. This lesson plan demonstrates just one example of how literature can be used in language teaching creatively, focusing on integrated skills as widely as possible. Hope it inspires and helps you!
