The Little Mermaid Story - Time phrases, feelings, subject/object questions
*This is the student worksheet. The teacher´s guide is uploaded separately.
In this lesson plan, students use the Disney story “The Little Mermaid” to learn about vocabulary describing feelings, time phrases, subject / object questions and to practice reading skills.
First, the students discuss mermaids and feelings that a beautiful girl in a fairytale might have. Then they gist read the story to compare the feelings in the story with what they had. They find out why the characters had those feelings and discuss with a partner about what makes them feel that way.
Then the students do a gapfill by adding time phrases to the story and then listen to the teacher read the story to check. Analysing the time phrases, the students determine the uses of various prepositions of time and then quiz each other.
Next, students answer comprehension questions taken from the text and then use them to learn about the use and form of subject / object questions. Finally, students read a grammar table and do various excersises to practice subject / object questions taken from “Fundamentals of English Grammar – 3rd Edition” (Betty Azar)
