Podcast Project
Podcasts are a great source of authentic listening material not only specific to ESL/EFL students but all learners in a myriad of subject areas. They are available for free through apps on smart phones (iTunes for Apple and various free apps for Android telephones). Additionally, they can be streamed or downloaded for free from websites or apps associated with the podcast or the podcast´s sponsoring network (for example, NPR or Stitcher). Some subscription music sites, like Spotify, also feature podcasts in addition to music.
Students choose a podcast according to their area of interest and after listening to an episode they rate and review it on the form. A list of potentially suitable podcasts are given.
Note: Some podcasts related to crime may not be suitable to sensitive listeners due to their graphic nature. Please take care and edit the podcast list according to your students, class and/or school.
